my first easter egg

03 May 2011

“I was born on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.

I met my first Easter egg on Sunday, April 24, 2011.

Unlike millions of kids who find Easter eggs in their yards, it wasn’t a happy experience for me.

I didn’t know what to make of the hard plastic shell and the rattling noise when I pushed it around with my paw.”

The Scary Oblong Thing

Our great dane puppy Luna recently discovered that some of the smallest and most innocuous things a young dog will encounter can be really scary. Take yellow Easter eggs, for example.

They’re small. They look like kong toys (which every dog knows are evil). They make noise when you push them around. They’re hard to open.

We awoke a week ago to find the Easter Bunny’s gifts to our family littering the backyard. OD and Luna went outside to find as many as they could. The hunt started and competition was fierce between them.

The dust settled and the spoils were distributed. It was time to open ’em up and enjoy.

How much trouble could a small yellow egg present? Lots, as you can see:

Bodie loves Easter. He got his first taste of chocolate last Easter when we left him home with his dog cousin Reuben. They found the kids stash and Bodie enjoyed a few morsels to my great dismay. Now we have to be ever so vigilant about keeping the dangerous “stuff” out of his reach, because as will-i-am says, “he just can’t get enough”
